The Sardar Patel Portal is an effort of the National Virtual Library of India (under the National Mission of Libraries, Ministry of Culture), to bring to the public a vast collection of archival material--both from public and private collections on Eminent Persons of India. The website currently showcases for the first time in one place archival records (over 1000 images, 800 documents, several audio and video recordings) that bring alive the great leader upon whose giant shoulders the edifice of the Indian nation took shape. Visitors can locate these records using the "Search" facility, or browse through sections specially curated by historians: Biography, Thematic Collections, Timelines, and Quotes.

The portal was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the 141-st birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on 31 October 2016. Over the next year, more records will be added, and other interesting aspects of the Sardar's life portrayed. Users will also be given an opportunity to share their private collection and stories to be hosted online. The site has been designed and developed by IIT Bombay using the Drupal opensource content management system.
